SUnglasses for your childThe offers of sunglasses are great, they come on various styles, colors, shapes and quality. In most cases you select a pair of sunglasses because you like then and because they look good on you.

But the protection of your eyes is just as important, this does not mean that the protection has to influence the appearance of your glasses. You can have both simultaneously.

UV protection

The most important is that your sunglasses give you enough protection against UV rays. To be sure that your sunglasses have an adequate protection your sunglasses would have to have a sticker indicating it’s UB protection level: UV 400 or 100% UV protection.

The color of the glass

When you color the glasses of your sunglasses light is absorbed. On today market you have a broad variation of colors. Which color you select depends on your taste, but each color has different properties.

Yellow tinted glasses

Green tinted glass

Greens reduce glare and filter part of the blue light. Green glasses provide a good contrast between objects.

Rose tinted glasses

Rose tinted glasses are a good choice if you are very active in water sports or you are around a lot of water.  They offer a good contrast for objects against a blue or green background.

Polaroid

These sunglasses are polarized and have a light absorption of 75%.

Scratch resistant

With an additional treatment where an additional layer is added to your sunglasses they are protected from scratches in the glass. Plastic glasses are extremely sensitive for scratches.

Reflective or mirrored sunglasses

Mirrored glasses have an extra layer to enable the reflection. They are popular sunglasses but they get scratches quickly.

Photo Chromatic lenses

Photo Chromatic lenses color darker as the UV light increases. The disadvantage is that if you suddenly enter a dark room then your glasses need some time to adjust again.

Frames

They have more impact on your appearance and weather your sunglasses are comfortable to wear. Synthetic materials are generally lighter and this more comfortable to wear. Sunglasses for children and babies are easy to carry by the elastic band and still look cool.

Protection of eyes and skin

Sunglasses do not only protect the eyes, but also the skin around the eyes from the sun. Since the skin around the eyes is very thin and prone to wrinkles so this protection is no superfluous luxury. Sunglasses that stays wider at the temples offer an additional protection.

Winter sport can be also very relaxing for your child, providing that proper care is taken of the eyes and skin against the harmful effect of snow and sun.

It is common knowledge that the skin of your child should be protected well against the elements but the eyes deserve the same care and attention. The lenses of your child’s eyes are extremely sensitive and do not contain the light-absorbing chronophers which will eventually color the white within the eyes when your child grows older.

Exposure to UVA and UVB radiation could therefore increased the risk of cataracts (clouding of the lens) in a later life stage. There for sunglasses with a good UV filter is essential.  Take your time and care when selecting sunglasses for your kid because “today” sunglasses are more decorative than functional. If you select sunglasses without UV filter then the pupils of your child enlarges, which in its turn allows more harmful light to enter the eyes of your child. Therefore choose only sunglasses that have a UV-protective classification.
